The newly discovered protein (p16INK4a) is present in the blood according to a density that gradually increases as we age. Moreover, the amount of this protein in the blood may increase unusually. Even at a young age, when a person is engaged in an unhealthy lifestyle, such as smokers and those who exercise little or not enough. It is noteworthy that exercise is the main weapon for burning calories in the body, after each meal. On the contrary, American researchers did not notice any increase in the amount of protein (p16INK4a) in the blood of overweight and obese people. In other words, this protein plays the role of a health thermometer in the body. The density of the protein p16INK4a, which is produced by a tumor suppressor gene that prevents cancer cells from multiplying, can be measured simply with a quick blood sample test. Thus, it becomes possible, for example, to know the molecular age (or rather the true state of health) of an organ intended for transplantation. The actual health conditions of a patient who has just undergone surgery can also be evaluated. At present, a group of nearly two hundred male and female volunteers has undergone this rapid examination, which promises to soon adopt a reliable measure of the aging of the body’s organs, up close.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Scientists at the University of North Carolina have succeeded in identifying a protein that is able to monitor and display the health and speed of aging of body tissues.
